WRECK OF A BARQUENTINE.
The Tow Line parts and she goes Ashore.
By Telegraph.—Per Preaa Associate n. Westport, August 20. While the barquentiue Yolande, from the Clarence River, with a cargo of timber, was being towed in this afternoon, the tow hne parted. A heavy sea was r inning, and the vessel directly drifted on to the north beach. The crew left the vessel in a boat and safely reached the tag. The vessel is now ashore, and is expected to become a total wreck owing to the severe knocking about she received. Later. The Yolande is a complete wreck, five miles north of Westport. The three masts have gone by the board. The sea made a complete breach through her. Captain McDonald and the crew lauded safely this afternoon. The crew lost all their effects.
The Yolande. of 825 tons, is wellknown in New Zealand waters, and it is understood that she is a Dunedin-owned vessel. She left the Clarence River for Westport on July 31st, with a full caigo of hardwood timber—mos.lv for the wharf extensions at the West Coast port. The Yolau.le left the Clarence in company with the brigantine M. A. Doran, the latter Tessel being bound for the Bluff, also with hardwood.
