Pahiatua School Committee.

Ordinary Meeting. The school committee met last night. Present Messrs Reeve (Chairman), Lewis, Vile, De G. Fraser, llare, Levin, and Bottomley. COI.KESPOSDENCE. From the Educat o 1 Board, stating that the school would reassemble for school duties after the Record Reign holidays on Monday, the 28th inst. From a parent, complaining that her child had been very improperly treated by ono of the teachers. On the letter being read, Mr Vile moved that the letter be passed on to the Headmaster requesting him to make full enquiries and report upon tho complaints at next meeting. He considered there was a good deal in the letter which needed an explanation.

TJie Chairman said ho was of the same opinion as Mr Vile and considered the teacher complained of had lost her head somewhat. Mr De G. Fraser seconded the resolution, which was carried.

From the Secretary of the Board of-Education, stating that he had been directed to inform the committee that the Board had directed its Inspector to make .further enquiries and submit fuller information for the Board's consideration beforo any action is taken with regard to the pupil teachers referred to in the examination report of your school, and further stating that the Board propose to promote Miss Birnie to another appointment, and when Miss Biruio leaves the Board would communicate with the committee with regard to the question of her successor.—Received.

Mr Collett's tender for supplying firewood for the school was accepted. Sundry accounts were passed for payment. Messrs Lewis and Levin, visiting committee for the past month, reported ro cortain work they had authorised in connection with the school during the month.

The action of the visiting committee in getting the work done was endorsed.

On the motion of Mr Lewis, seconded by Mr Vile, it was resolved That tho ordinary meeting of the committee ho held on the second Thursday in each month for the future instead of the first, aud that the next meeting he held on the second Thursday in August. It was resolved that tho Secretary be instructed to write to Mr \\ iUon. the second master, thanking him for the valuable assistance ho gave the Committee on Record Reign day, Mr Fraser remarking that Mr Wilson had worked very hard to make the outing a success. It was also decided that Mr Wilson be asked to convey the Committee’s thunks to Misses Biruio and Black for the assistance they also gave the Committee on that occasion. Resolved that tho Board he asked what steps it had taken in reference to appointing truant inspectors, and to inform them that an inspector was urgently required for the l’aliiatua school.

Mr Vilo reported that in connection with tho Record Reign school celebrations Mr Henry hud collected and handed to him tho sum of l'(s 17s. This amount he iMr Vilo) had expended as follows : Telegrams Is (id, food supplied for childrens' ten A'l. prizes for children At, tar and barrels, 19s, fireworks 1 r>s; total, .A(> 15s (id. The balance of Is lid ho handed to the Committee. In connection with tho same matter Mr Fraser said ho had supplied tho tea which he would consider as a donation, hut he had hired assistance, and if ttio committee would subscribe tho 10s paid for hire ho would ho quite satisfied. Tho amount was nt onco subscribed, tho school funds not contributing a penny towards the expenditure for tho celebration. Mr Levin suggested that clubs be bought for tho use of tho school. Messrs Hawke .t Hour had a number which they would sell at Is oacli which ho considered was cheap. Ollier members considered it would ho better for each parent to J supply his children with dubs, and tho matter then dropped. Mr Bottomley suggested that some effort he made in the shape of a concert to raise sohool funds, but the matter was not taken up. Tho mooting then termmated.
