Legislative Council.
Wellington, This Day. In the Legislative Council the Juries Act Amendment Bill passed its final h ages. Iu Committee on the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill a clause was inserted bringing municipal corporations v/ithin its jurisdiction. In the clause setting out the constitution of court, the words “ district judges as presidents” were struck out.
The Land Tax Bill was introduced from the other Chamber and put through all its stages at one sitting.
House of Representatives.
The House met at 2.80. The whole afternoon was occupied with local bills. Tho House resumed at 7.30. Amendments made in Committee in Sir Robert Stout’s Gaming Bill were agreed to and the Bill put through its final stages. Mr W. Hutchison's Bill to regulate the vale of seeond-hand articles and provide for licensing second-hand dealers was read a second time. Sir Robert Stoat’s Bill to found an university college for the middle district of the colony provoked considerable debate. Tho Minister of Lands said if the bill passed lie would like to know where the endowments were to come from. He .bought there were quite sufficient universities in the colony for its population. Eventually Mr Graham moved a hostile amendment to the effect that the bill be read a second time that day six months, which was lost on division by 26 to 17, and the seoond reading agreed to on the voices. The House rose at 12.15.
