We remind our readers of the benefit concert this evening to Mr H. D. Robinson. The programme —a lengthy and varied one—appears in another column. Mr Robinson has always given his services willingly for any good object, often at much personal trouble and inconvenience. lb is not too much, therefore, to expect a full house at tho Public Hall this evening.

A public meeting, convened by Mr J. 11. Walker, takes place at Maugatainoka this evening. Mr W. Redmond, a local poultry fancier, lias just received from Mr Kogan, the well-known fancier of Wellington, a trio of purebred Leghorns from celebrated winning strains. The birds are h very superior set, far ahead of any others we have seen in tho district. Fanciers can see them at Mr Redmond’s residence.

Greville & Co. wish to draw particular attention to their new advertisement over leader, in which they announce that they aro prepared to execute leases, mortgages and transfers, under the Land Transfer Act at the merely nominal charges allowed under the sixth schedule of this Act. Frequently the legal charges in connection with tho purchase or leas© of a property aro a very considerable item and a very heavy tax on the purchaser or lessee. Under this schedule a transfer of a £IOOO property can be effected for a fee of one pound sterling. No doubt buyers of property will not be slow to avail themselves of this opportunity of saving expe.-se. At the meeting of the Educatir Beard on Wednesday the following app rnents were made: —Mr J. Thomas at the Mount Cook School, to be head t .i-her at l’ahiatua ; Misa Murphy at Rallance, Miss Sicely at Maugatainoka and Mr G. Jones at the Hutt. Mr Wilson was also appointed assistant at Pahiatua, subject to the approval of tho Commute.—Times. It was decided at the meeting of the Education Board yes tv day. on the motion of Mr J. Young, second dby MrF. Bradey. that for the future the election of chairman should take place annually. Hitherto the chairman has been elected triennially. It was pointed out by Mr Young that the motion was not prompted by any antagonism to Mr Blair, the present chairman. Mr Young said he fully recognised the abilitj’ with which Mr Blair had conducted the Board’s affairs. James S. Connell has been selected as letter carrier for Pahiatua. Twelve applications were received. We remind our readers that the tenders for Mr Crewe’s stumping, close to-morrow night, (Saturday). Hawkins and Oudaille add 120 young stock and 10 first-cl.-ss dairy cows to their sale list for Tuesday next. This sale promises to he the biggest sale up to the present for this year in Pahiatua. Those desiring to gel good landed property in Mangatainoka, should attend Hawkins and Oudaillo’s sale of property advertised for 12 o’clock noon on Thursday, August 2nd., at the Briok Mart.
