Statutory Meeting. Thu statutory meeting of the above Council was held at noon to-day. Present Crs G. Whitcomhe, K. Perry, A. Ross, h. Holton, T. Hodgins, .1. B. Tail, J. Griffiths, A. Yule, and P. .1. Murphy. Mr Geo. Moore, County Clerk, oc i copied the chair, and read the returning officer’s report on the result of the recent elections. He asked those present to elect a chairman for the ensuing 12 months. Or Yule inovid, That Cr ISolton be 1 Chairman for the ensuing 12 months. Seconded l>y Cr Murphy. There being no other nomination Cr Holton was declared elected unanimously. Cr I billon then took thi chair and thanked the Councillors for again returning him totheposition. lledidnot think the Chairmanship of the Council should be a permanent fixture, but under the circumstances with so many new members he considered he was justified in accepting the position, and assisting the Council. At the end of his term, however, be would ask the Councillors to leave him out and elect another Chairman. Ordinary business was then proceeded with". Report will appear next issue.)
