New Boys’ High School Badge
“ The parents of pupils will be interested to know that the board has adopted a new cap badge,” said Mr J. C. Stephens at the prize-giving ceremony at the Otago Boys' High School on Friday. “The new badge, which the board believes to be an improvement on the old one, will be introduced next year. Only new pupils will be required to have the new badge, but there will be nothing to prevent present pupils who wish to do so to change from the old to the new. The badge is the outward and visible sign that you belong to a school that has a proud history. I can say that, because I had not the good fortune to be a pupil. When the toast of ‘ The School ’ is honoured at gatherings of old boys, it is not so much these material walls that are referred to, but rather the great brotherhood of past and present pupils and masters. How great that brotherhood is is shown by the positions held in the community by past pupils and by the gatherings of old boys in the cities of this Dominion, in the cities of Australia, in London, and in other parts of the world. I envy you your heritage and I trust you feel a pride in belonging to the brotherhood and will realise that if, in the future, you are tempted to follow a course that will bring dishonour on yourself. you will be dissuaded from it by realising that you will bring dishonour upon the school."
Opening of Sydney Bridge It is expected as a result of representations made in Australia that the band winning the New Zealand championship at the contest to be held in Wellington in February will be invited to participate in the functions which are to take place in Sydney in March in connection with the opening of the Sydney Harbour bridge.
