PRODUCE MARKETS.
CHRISTCHURCH. October 10. The potato market has suffered a further relapse. The Waimarino, which is due to sail to-morrow, will take a heavy cargo of potatoes. She has on board 5100 sacks from" Timaru, and estimates of the quantity of tubers to Be put on board at Lyttelton vary from 3000 to 4000 sacks. Values to farmers on trucks to-day are £2 10s a ton for whites and £2 5s to £2 10s for Dakotas. In regard to forward business there is not nearly the amount passing that was the case last year. Northern buyers are very reluctant to operate. Nominally the value of tubers forward for next season is £3 5s to £3 10s a ton on trucks. The oats and chaff market is "dead" at present. A grade Gartons from the south are quoted at 3s 7d ’to 3s Bd, f.0.b., s.i., and B’s at 3s 6d to 3s 7d. A’s for Lyttelton shipment are worth 4d more than these values in each case.
There has been a little better inquiry from the north ■ for chaff, but even with this the business passing is of small proportions. The value is £5 a ton on trucks.
