AEROPLANE TRAGEDY.

PILOT CAMERON’S DEATH. ■ WELLINGTON, April 23. Evidence was given at the inquest in regard to the death of Pilot J. Cameron, who was fatally injured in an aeroplane crash at Porirua on April 7, that the machine dived from 30ft owing to stalling through the loss of flying speed when landing. The coroner said the evidence showed quite clearly, he thought, that the accident was due to misjudgment on the part of Mr Cameron, and returned a verdict that the deceased died from concussion and shock following head injuries received through the accidental crashing of his machine.

A message received on April 7 stated that a monocoupe crashed on Porirua mud flats, when Pilot Cameron suffered a fractured skull, also a fractured jaw and left leg. Mr Cameron, who was a war pilot, was giving the owner of the machine, Mr O. Cotterill, of Lower Hutt, lessons in flying, and the latter had been up several times during the morning. Air Cameron then went up, and had just done a stunt, when his engine stalled and the machine nose-dived into the soft earth. Great difficulty was experienced in getting him out.
