Rod ' display was encouraging. Red Lion has tailed repeatedly. He villo ra c e .m very weak fields at Dargabe or, nf - lf he ta ! ls tllere it would not r’i.l’JlK"' ”

til Ibe Al 'o l,a -traiiied Sir Russell continues to race consistently. H e was one the unlucky ones at Takapuna- a o «c. by the way. that does not suit urn and he can be relied upon to win a handicap at one of the approaching country fixtures. s

f n c ald CA ords was lucky to beat Bells ot Shandon on the second day at Takapuna. as he interfered with the latter when that youngster was making his effort. Bells or Shandon should get his win at Rotorua, where the opposition will be no stronger than at Takapuna. A. linker continues to win races with the speedy A aluation. who beat Eaglet in impressive style at Takapuna. In any lace up to a mile the sire of Valkyrian can be labelled dangerous at forthcoming meetings. He is a great beginner, and is fast becoming more solid. That useful pair. Alosque and Alosaic, have for the past two months been under the care of A. linker, and they are now getting into racing shape. Mosaic showed at lakapuna. Sir Alond raced surprisingly proved, and Rotorua may see him staging something like a return to form. He is now being luxuriously weighted as a result of a sequence of failures. Showing considerable superfluous flesh at 1 akapuna. Sir Alond raced surprisingly we]], and if two hard races in such condition do not prove too much for him. he should soon be heard from. He is a solid customer who needs only good condition to win in his present class. •Tn the AA aipa Plate in December Caulis attracted some attention by making a good effort after showing inexperience at the start. He is a decidedly promising novice in AA’. Stone's care, and may be difficult to beat in coming maiden events on the country circuit. AA ith an ounce of luck Afaori Boy' would have w-on the Takapuna Jockey Club Handicap. As it was he went under by a head to that good mare in her day, Royal Doulton. This consistent horse has been very unlucky throughout his career. He was sporting a suspicious looking leg at Thames, but he seemed sound enough at Takapuna. Providing he keeps on his leg. he will get plenty of chances on the country circuit.

Alost of the Aucklanders -engaged at New Plymouth were expected to go on *to AVangamii. Corinax has only to keep right to be a good prospect in the Cup, but a rehandicap might prejudice his chance, although his staying ability is superior to that of most of ms competitors.

Refresher has not been raced of late, but he is a speedy horse that will soon win a sprint. If taken to AVanganui. he should take a hand in the finish of the short races. Bold Archer is a very useful maiden that an injury put out of action last season. He looked about himself at Takapuna, but will soon be in racing trim. He can be relied upon to emerge from this class as soon as he is stripped in good condition. There is nothing remarkable about the ability of Loving Cup. but it may' be worth remembering at country fixtures that he was unlucky when beaten by two good ones. Honiton and Chromadyne, at lakapuna.
