February 7. The aged gelding Aloorland (Finland — D'Oro I who has been racing since 1921. when he won his first race in the colours of his breeder, Mr T. 11, Lowry, dividing the Tiratu Juvenile Stakes with Merry Queen, paid a big dividend when he von on the opening day at Foxton, and also scored on his only appearance at Paliiat’uu He is now in H. Pritchard’s stable at 1 rentham. and is a stable mate of Royal Game, who was also runner-up in the Cup. At. Poverty Bay in the spring Jen won one hurdle race, and ran second in the other. He was again engaged this month, but will be racing at Taranaki instead. He got in there with lOst. which is much less than his owner could have expected to get up the East Coast.

Hie Pahiatua meeting would have been nearly as successful as the previous one only for the unfavourable weather experienced on the concluding da.v, when the totalisator investments slumped. As it was. the gate receipts were ahead of those for last year, which was the best since the boom period. The gold cup went to the light weighted Marjoram (Catmint — Wahneeta), who was suited with he sting being out of the ground. He was not started on the second day, and is to make his next appearance up the West Coast, where he raced suecessfullv before U hristmas.

Mr H. E. Connop. who has trained and meed horses tor a number oi years, acted as starter tor the first time at the Palliatua meeting, and made a favourable impression by his despatches, especial'y on the concluding day. The officials of several clubs were present to see his work, and it will not be surprising if lie is appointed to other clubs. Mr Connop is a steward of the Woodville Club, for which Mr C. O’Connor acts, and which holds a meeting this month.

The Rodney Hack Cup, to which was attached a silver cup presented bv Air S. V Rodney, a vice president of' the ciulg proved a great success. Ihe field included two first days’ winners in Tourist and Kilorell. also Air Force, who deadheaded for first. F. Davis had two horses racing at the meeting in his own name. Cook and Mir abilary, a grey mare by Mira. The hitter ran second to Good Acre (Acre —Coronet mare) on her only appearance at the meeting; The Trentham trained Glare, who was among the winners at Wingatui at Christmas, is going down for the Dunedin Cup. It is reported that C. Emerson will again ride him.

The three-year-old General Gas (Gas-nag—-Lady General) ran three good races at Pahiatua, finishing first, second, and third.

The light weights K. Voitre and H. Wiggins rode at Takapuna on Wednesday at Pahiatua on Thursday, and again at Takapuna on Saturday, where both were successful.

Big Bertha (Romeo —Kairamarama). a double winner on the concluding da.v at Thames, was engaged at both the Taranaki and Gisborne meetings, and is accepted for up the East Coast, where it will probably be easier. Strange to say she is not engaged at the Poverty Bay meeting the following week.
