SEISMIC ACTIVITY.

The following appeared in la.ii week’s JSecovul Edition.

SHAKE FELT IN CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, December 17. An earthquake shock which, though only slight, was somewhat more severe than the one which occurred yesterday morning, was recorded at the Christchurch magnetic observatory at 3.38 a.m. to-day. New Zealand standard time. The shock came from the north of Christchurch. Measurements of the seismograph records make the distance between the city and the point of origin of the disturbance slightly over 120 miles, about the distance of the origin of the Buller earthquake from Christchurch. The record shows that seismic activity was not confined to the chief shake. Movements from two minor distant shocks showed up earlier »n the seismograph.
