A CHEMIST FINED.
QUESTION Ob’ BRANCH SHOP. WELLINGTON, September 25. “ It seems to be in conflict with the spirit of the Act that a drug store where medical prescriptions are received and are later distributed to patients should be under the control of unskilled men.” said the magistrate (Mr E. Page) in the course of a judgment delivered to-day. ‘"ln many cases advice or instructions have to be obtained from a chemist as to the method of applying, or taking medicine or a mixture," but this cannot be safely given except by qualified men.” The case was one in which \V. S. Wallace was charged under section 40 of the Pharmacy Act. 1908, that being a registered chemist he kept under his name an open shop for compounding or dispensing of prescriptions, the said shop not being under his immediate supervision and control, or that of his duly enrolled manager. When the ca«e was heard it was stated that prescriptions were received at the Lambton quay shop but were made up at the Willis" street shop. The defendant was fined £5 Is, security for appeal being fixed at £lO 10s.
