A CONFECTIONER FINED.

WELLINGTON, March 1

Accepting the police evidence, Mr F. K. Hunt., S.M., to-day convicted Charles Henry Lockhart Tucker, a confectioner at Kilbimie, on a charge of selling liquor without a license. Following a sale to the police a raid was made on the defendant’s place, and a considerable quantity of liquor was seized. Mr Hunt said lie had no hesitation in accepting the police story, and fined the defendant £25, in default three months’ imprisonment. To his judgment .Mr Hunt added: “And in my opinion he has told lies and committed perjury.” The charge against Olaf Johnson of being illegally on the premises was dismissed, the magistrate saving there was some doubt.
