MOTOR CYCLING THRILL.

A CAPSIZE AT HIGH SPEED. RIDER REMOUNTS MACHINE. CHRISTCHURCH, December i. Gasps were heard from the large crowd when Tui Morgan, the well-known racing motor cyclist from Greytown, somersaulted when his cycle, travelling at 55 miles an hour, capsized in the New Zealand light-weight championship at the New Brighton racecourse this afternoon. There were two sickening somersaults, and then the crowd sent up a relieved cheer as Morgan, apparently unhurt, straightened his cycle and sped after the field which had passed him. The plucky rider was loudly cheered upon reaching the winning post. Morgan had led all the way until his spill. Excitement was high as J. R. Arnott (Palmerston North) gradually made up some of the distance he had lost to Morgan. Arnott was gaining steadily, but it appeared unlikely that he could overtake Morgan before the end of the eighth lap. Arnott wobbled badly at times, but he managed to evade Morgan’s machine as it capsized. Arnott, who is the holder of the world’s one mile grass track record, won the championship, and Morgan, little the wdrse for his spill, was fourth. He received an ovation as he finished.
