Some surprise was evidently felt bv Mr Justice Frazer at New Plymouth (says an exchange) when a witness in the Arbitration Court said he had agreed to . dictate a statement on the understanding that it was not used against him. Though he had read it through afterwards, he told the court that certain parts were incorrect. “Did you think they were going to frame it and hang it in the office? ” his Honor. For a time the witness did not seem to know what he thought. “I didn’t know much what I did that day; I had the ’flu," he said. “Well,” said the judge, “take my advice and don't have the ffiu should the police ever ask you for a statement.”
