The advantages of a continuous telephone service were touched on at the meeting of the Gore Borough Council, when the town clerk was reporting on an interview with the postmaster on the subject of a special fire alarm for the nightwatchman (reports the Mataura Ensign). The postmaster had stated that the present all-night service was now loaded to capacity, and, unless a special private line was installed, there was no means of having communication, .unless, of course, there .was a continuous telephone service. Balclutha had a continuous service, and there was no reason why Gore should not have similar facilities. — (“ Hear, hear.”) The Mayor, Crs Shelton and Bowman enthusiastically favoured such a service, and the report was received.
