FIRE BRIGADES.

WESTPORT, May 9. In answer to a request by the Westport Fire Brigade that he should urge the Government to restore the grant of £lOOO towards the next demonstration in February, Mr H. E. Holland (Leader of the Opposition) expressed his willingness to do so, and strongly urged the brigade to get the executive of the New Zealand Fire Brigades’ Association to form a deputation to meet the Prime Minister and other Ministers of the Crown. He also suggested that it should be arranged that all members of Parliament who are in favour of the grant should form a deputation and get a definite promise from the Minister as to what he intends to do. The deputation should meet during the first week of the session and arrange for an old fire brigade member of Parliament to speak on its behalf. Mr Holland’s letter has been forwarded to the secretary of the association for him to act upon.
