SUNDAY PICTURES.

CHARGE AGAINST OFFICIALS ' FAILS.GREYMOUTH, May 7. Arthur Beban, manager of the Greymouth pictures, was charged with conducting Sunday pictures, and several officials' of the Greymouth Baths Committee were charged with assisting. Evidence was given that Beban leased the hall to the Baths Commitee for Sunday' evening at £B, th? commitee making its own arrangements for the staff, etc. Mr Hannan, solicitor for the defence, quoted the English Sunday Observance Act of 1780 to the effect that.the owner or lessee who let a hall to others could not be held liable. The magistrate upheld this contention and dismissed all charges. The evidence showed that Sunday pictures for the past three years had netted the Baths Committee over £5OO.
