\ QUARTERLY RETURNS. WELLINGTON, May 10. The withdrawals from the Post Office Savings Bank for the quarter which ended on March 31 exceeded the deposits by £109,417. The deposits amounted to £6,714,421, as compared with £6,759,305 for the corresponding period of last year. The withdrawals were £6,823,838 during last quarter and £6.803,611 for the correspnoding period of last year. The excess of withdrawals over deposits was £109,417, as against £44,306 for last year’s corresponding quarter. The appended table shows the amount of the deposits and withdrawals in the four centres:—
An excess of deposits over withdrawals was recorded at Gisborne (£23,230), Hamilton (£26(546), Napier (£3102), Nelson (£538), New Plymouth (£38,401), Palmerston North (£55,879), Thames (£4841), Tiniaru (£7610), Wanganui f (£24,115), and Rarontonga (£55). > Money orders issued amounted to £1,321,929 (£1,320,074 for the 1927 quarter). Money orders paid amounted to £1,245,113 (£1,236,722 for last year’s quarter). For the same quarter the post and telegraph revenue amounted to £975.960. as compared with £840,723 for the corresnonding quarter of 1927, an increase of £135,237. The total postal revenue was £510,065 (£405.442 for last year’s quarter). The total telegraph revenue was £415,895 (as compared with £435,281). Details of the total returns from the more important offices are:—General Post Office, £182,482: Auckland, £120,355; Wellington, £138.441; Christchurch, £71,481; Dunedin, £86.082.
