HEALTH OF CHILDREN.
MEDICAL TRAINING FOR TEACHERS.. CHRISTCHURCH, May 3. A suggestion that school.' teachers should be given a certain, amount of medical training so as to enable them to assist in checking disease was made to the Minister of Health (Air J. A. Young) by Mr A. C. Maxwell, head master of the Phillipstown l School, this morning,' ”C“I have not heard the suggestion before, but it is a valuable one; and I certainly think it should be made to the Minister of Education,” said Mr. Young. “ 1 thought that the syllabus was already as full as it could be made.” “ We could knock out some of the subjects,” replied Mr Maxwell.. The Minister said the matter was well worth considering by the education authorities. Prevention . , was always better than cure, and possibly the hosG pital; boards could do something along ■> those lines. Propoganda work regarding the care of the body and the value of sunshine and fresh air was very valuable. Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.: I think the department is doing a very good work along those lines at present. .. The Minister said that it was, hoped to go even further, and he thought that the hospital boards could have ■ nurses who would be available to go out to people’s homes.
