During recent alterations at the Hastings Post Office a few stray letters have been found in out-of-the-way places, such as the back of hoardings and in crevices (reports the Hawke’s Bay Tribune). A post card conveying Christmas greetings from Suva, Fiji, and dated December 13, 1912. has been delivered to Mr A. Rosenberg, of Hastings. The card looks somewhat faded, but it is otherwise little the worse for its 16 years’ delay. “You would be surprised at the ‘cute dodges ’ some people adopt to beat the Southland Power Board,” remarked the secretary of the board (Mr C. Campbell) at a recent meeting (reports the Southland Daily News) “In some cases,” he said, “ consumers threatened with being cut off shift at the last moment to another house and take another initial to their names! ” It was suggested that inducement be offered to Power Board officers to trail cases of this sort and that board members should give their cooperation.
