SAFETY OF CHILDREN.
OVERCROWDING OF VEHICLES. AUCKLAND, May 2. Emphasising the danger resulting from the overcrowding of vehicles conveying children to school, Mr 11. S. 3V. King urged, at the meeting of the Auckland Education Board to-day, that teachers should be informed of their duty to ensure the safety of pupils. The head teachers of the Ngatea and Turua schools reported that vehicles conveying children to their schools were overcrowded. Mr King said that, owing to the number of accidents occurring on the roads, it was necessary to protect travelling children. The board’s solicitor had given his opinion that teachers were responisble for the welfare of the children in their schools from the time they left home until they returned. Teachers should be reminded of their responsibiliit was considered that teachers generally were not aware of their responsibilities, it was decided to circularise them as suggested.
