Carty (Victoria), 6—4, 6—3. BOXING PRELIMINARIES. MANY KEEN CONTESTS. WELLINGTON, April T. The boxing preliminaries o f the New Zealand University tournament were held this morning at the Town Hall before a fair attendance. All the bouts were keenly contested, and in a few cases the judges disagreed, leaving the referee (Mr Earl Stewart) to decide. The best boy of the morning was Ferguson, th e Otago feather-weight, who ouVpointed Richard (of Auckland), who is boxing m two weights. In the middle-weight bout between R. B Moorhouse (Auckland) and E. E. Chamberlain (Victoria) the latter ‘had Moorehouse all in in the first round and for part of the second, but the Aucklander came back strongly and won by a close margin-. Results :— BANTAM-WEIGHT. N. M'Alevey (Otago) out-pointed L. M. Perry (Canterbury). V. C. Richard (Auckland) a bye. FEATHER-WEIGHT. N. Ferguson (Otago) out-pointed C. Rickard (Auckland). H. A. Dick (Canterbury) out-pointed F.
