EGGS FROM CANADA.
CONSIGNMENT AT AUCKLAND. . AUCKLAND, March 27. The arrival of a consignment of some 10,500 dozen eggs from Canadian farms by the Aorangi was chiefly responsible for a fall of between Id and 2d a dozen in the price of hen eggs at the Auckland city markets. The eggs were brought over in cool storage and landed in excellent condition. The shipment has come as rather an unpleasant surprise to local producers at this time of the year. With the approach of Easter the price of eggs goes up as a general rule and. the producer can usually rely on selling his eggs to good advantage.
If, however, the market is disturbed by importation his calculations arc unexpectea.y upset, and the period upon which he may have relied to make up past losses becomes unprofitable. It is not yet known at the markets how th? venture was oivan ised as it is quite an innovation. It is clear that the Canadian farmer is able to land eggs here very cheaply, since other wise the enterprise would hardly have been attempted.
