VISITORS TO THE DOMINION.
PASSENGERS BY THE NIAGARA. AUCKLAND, January 16. A large number of passengers arrived by the Niagara from Sydney this morning.
Among the passengers is Dame Nellie Melba, the Australian prima donna, who is travelling with her daughter-in-law, Mrs George Armstrong, and Miss Margaret Allen, to Honolulu. The members of the party have taken a bungalow at Waikiki Beach, and they are looking forward to an enjoyable holiday. Mr Nicholas Everett, of the English legal firm of Messrs Watson and Everett, will spend several months in the Dominion, principally in the far north, among the- big fish. As a British secret service officer in the Great War, he had many adventures, and secured details about “ Big Bertha ” and a super-submarine which the Germans were building in 1914. Mr Everett has not been to New Zealand before.
Sir George Elliot (chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand) returned after nine months’ absence in England and to the Continent.
Mr W. Forgan Smith, Deputy Premier and Minister of Agriculture in the Queensland Labour Cabinet, will spend several weeks in the Dominion He has come to recuperate his health, which has suffered as the result of. 14 years of parliamentary life. Mr and his family will go to Rotorua after spending a few days in Auckland.
Mr Russell Colman, a partner in the firm of Colman, of mustard fame, has come to New Zealand for fishing at Rotorua. This is his first visit to the Dominion.
Mr A. H. Panton, a Labour member of the Western Australian Parliament, arrived with his wife on a holiday visit to the Dominion. Mr Panton is secretary to the Parliamentary Labour Party in his State.
