EXTENSION OF PLANT. INCREASE OF LOADING.' The Electric Power and Lighting Committe will submit the following report to the meeting of the City Council to-morrow evening:— Work in connection with the extension of the power plant at Waipori is proceeding steadily. .. Good progress is being made by the city engineers’ staff on No. 4 pipe line. The plant for the main power station is now being landed, the last, of the three transformers having been delivered at Waipori on the 17th instant. The generator from the United States should be landed in Dunedin before the end of this jponth, and the Boying turbine is due .in Dunedin about February 9. There is no possibility-now'of the'work being completed by the end of March, as has been planned, but it will "be pushed on as quickly as possible in order to get some time for overhauling the'other two 3000 kw machines before the-winter load comes on. • .
As an indication of the way in which the load is growing, it may be noted that the units generated at Waipori for the fortnight ended. December 28, compared with the corresponding period bf ; last year, were up 23 per cent. --.
