LAWN TENNIS

FRANCE v. NEW ZEALAND.

THE DOMINION REPRESENTATIVES. WELLINGTON, January >. Definite arrangements have now’ been agreed upon that the match France v. New Zealand will be played at Miramar on Wednesday and Thursday, Januarv 18 and 19.

The following have been selected to represent New Zealand :—

Singles.—G. Ollivier (Christchurch) nd E. L. Barleet (Auckland). Doubles—L. G. Knott and N. G. Sturt (Auckland).

The order of play in the match will 6e '■ —Two singles on Wednesday and vwo singles and one double on Thursday. M. Jean Borotra, the French captain, has agreed to a suggestion to play an additional exhibition match on the first day, and has nominated C. Boussus, the junior member of the team. The Selection Committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association has decided that his opponent will be C. E. Malfroy, ex-junior champion of New Zealand.

On the afternoons of the 18th and 19th inst. big lawn tennis will be seen at the Miramar Grounds, Wellington, when the Frenchmen, who are arriving on January 16, will be seen in action against the chosen of New Zealand. As it has been decided to play the match under Davis Cup rules, only four players at the most can be included in a team. Two singles will be played the first afternoon, and two singles and one double the second day—five matches in all, which will be of five sets advantage. An added attraction on the first day will be the exhibition match between Christian Bousens and C. E. Malfroy, of Wellington. These two players are about the same age, and it will be very interesting to see just what the Wellington colt can do against the young Frenchman, who shook up the great Tilden at Wimbledon of this year. Jean Borotra will be the great ..ttraction. He is the player who is famous for annihilating space on an aeroplane in between tournaments and even in between matches—just as the late Anthony Wilding used to annihilate miles on his motor bike. Borotra does many strange and wonderful things, and always is °a firm favourite at once with the spectators. Jacques Brugnon will also have his many followers—for although not given the chance to shine as much as he might do in the singles, yet uis game will astonish the galleries, and when in action in the doubles with Borotra is worth going a long way to see. The Frenchmen are speedy players, having learned the game on hard courts. THE DAVIS CUP. AUSTRALIAN DAVIS CUP TEAM. STDNEY, January 11.
