GEOLOGICAL SURVEY.

DR HENDERSON APPOINTED DIRECTOR.

WELLINGTON, January 14. Dr J. Henderson, M.A., D.Sc.. 8.E., Associate of the Otago School of Mines,’ has been appointed director of th e geological survey branch of the scientific and industrial research department in succession to the late Mr P. G. Morgan. Dr Henderson was born in New Zealand and educated at the High Street School Dunedin, the Otago Boys’ High School’ the Otago University, and the School of Mines. He obtained the degree of BSc in 1902, M.A. in 1906, D.Sc. in 1908. and B.Sc. in metallurgical engineering in 1913. He also holds the certificate of mine and land surveyor. In 1904., after gaining experience in practical mining at Denniston and Reefton, Dr Henderson was appointed director of the Reefton School of Mines. In 1911 he joined the staff of the geological survey as mining geologist; from which position he has now been promoted to that of director.
