RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
OBJECTION TO SUPPRESSION. WELLINGTON, August 12. A sitting of the North Island Railway Board of Appeal was held in Wellington on Thursday to hear the appeal of If. H. Murphy, locomotive foreman, Thorndon, against his supersession by G. F, Martin for the position of locomotive inspector for the North Island. The board comprised Messrs J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M. (chairman), V. R. J. Stanley (representing Division I of the service), and R. Carroll (representing Division II of Hie service). Mr A. Urquhart represented the Railway Department, and Mr R. Hampton (general secretary of the’ Railway Officers’ Institute) represented the appellant. Evidence on behalf of the department was given by J. F. Mackley (locomotive engineer) and A. Whisker (coal supervisor), and evidence on behalf of the ap pellant was given by E. E. Gillon (retired officer, formerly chief mechanical engineer) and J. M'Neely 'retired officer, formerly locomotive inspector). After the advocates had addressed the board, the Chairman intimated that the decision of the board would be forwarded to the Minister in due course.
