The ladies’ hockey match for the Lady Carroll Shield, played between Ruahine (Dannevirke) and Wairoa (the challengers), resulted in a victory for the former by 5 goals to 2. after a well contested game. MANAWATU DEFEATS TAIHAPE. PALMERSTON N.. July 20. Tn the game for the Winter Shield, Manawatu defeated Taiha|>e by 4 goals to 2. The Manawatu ladies defeated the Taihapc ladies by 9 goals to nil. NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM. SYDNEY, July 20. The New South Wales hockey team to meet New Zealand at Sydney on August 13 is as follows:—Goal, Wildman: backs, Abel, Todkill -, halves, Smith. Seaman, Baker; forwards, Nosworthy. Fitzpatrick. Grant, Nettleton, and Arnott. NEW ZEALAND TEAM'S TOUR. SYDNEY. July 19. The New Zealand team will meet the Duntroon Military College team on August 3. the Central Association team at Goulburn on August 6, Kenmore on August 8, and Crookwell on August 10. The team's visit to South Australia has apparently been abandoned. ANOTHER WIN FOR ENGLAND. SYDNEY, July 19. At Tenterfield England defeated Tenterfield by 8 goals to nil. BIG WIN FOR ENGLAND. BRISBANE, July 24. The EngliJi team defeated Queensland by 15 goals to 2. SATURDAY’S MATCHES. MEN'S GAMES. COMBINED CLUBS v. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS. From the initi-1 bully Combined Clubs attacked, but Jory cleared. Give and take play followed, and from an effort by Renniek a twenty-five resulted. Technical gained a corner. Green cleared, and Clubs took play to the circle. Walker’s shot going outside. Technical came away from the bully in a combined attack, and from a scramble in the circle L. Silver scored. Chibs attacked, but were sent back by Munro. Hinton, taking the ball right through, scored Technical’s second goal. Technical again attacked, but Gttrr cleared, and Watson took play to the circle, and scored for Combined Clubs. The Clubs attacked, and Brown had a shot at goal, but it lacked direction. Halftime was called. Technical 2, Combined Clubs 1. On resuming play. Technical attacked. L. Silver passed to Johnston, whose shot was weak, a twenty-five resulting. Clubs now livened up a bit, and Walker put a shot over the bar. liven play followed until the Technical forwards got away, and L. Silver scored. Technical kept up thc pressure, and Churchill scored. Shortly afterwards L. Silver shot another goal. Give and take play followed, Technical having the better of the game. The forwards made a combined attack, but Green cleared weakly, and Johnston, following in. scored. Time was called shortly afterwards with the scores: Technical Old’ Boys . . 6 goals.
