VEHICLES IN CITY STREETS.

PROPOSED REGULATIONS. RECOMMENDATIONS TO COUNCIL. At this week’s meeting of the City Council the General Committee will report that it has given further consideration to the draft regulations providing for the regulation and control of vehicles standing in streets, and is of thc opinion that the draft, as already submitted to the council should be approved, with an amendment providing that the time actually occupied in taking up or setting down passengers or goods shall not be included in the time limit of 15 minutes allowed by the regulations. A short clause has also been added providing that it shall not be lawful to leave any vehicle unattended in terms of the regulations within 30ft of any street intersection. □’he committee does not favour the suggestion that the regulations should apply only between the hours of 9 a.in. and 5 or 6 p.m. 9’he recommendations are as follows:— (1) No vehicle of any description shall be allowed to remain either unattended or attended for a longer period than is actually occupied iu taking up or setting down passengers or goods, on the west side of Princes street between Rattray street and High street, nor on the east side of Princes street between Water street and Lower High street; nor < n any part of Burlington street between Moray place and Lower High street. (2) No vehicle of any description-sliall be allowed to remain either attended or unattended for a longer period than fifteen minutes (exclusive of the time actually occupied in taking up or setting down passengers or goods as the case may be) in the following portions of streets within the city:—George street, between Albany street and the Octagon ; Princes street, between Manor place and the Octagon: High street, between Manse street and Castle street; Stuart street, between Octagon and Castle street; Upper Stuart street, between Octagon anil Moray place: Hope street, from Princes street to Stafford street; Carroll street, from Princes street to Hope street; Stafford street, from Princes street to Hope street, Manse street, from High street to Princes street; Bond street, from Rattray street to Police street; Crawford st -oct from Ratfray street to Police street; Manor place, from Princes street to Melville street; Water street, from Princes street to Crawford street; Liverpool street, from Princes street to Crawford st-cct: Rattray street, from Princes street to Maclaggau street; Jetty street, from Princes street to Crawford street: Dowling street, from Lower High street to Otago Travellers’ Club: the whole of Moray place ; the Octagon : Bath street, from Princes street to Siuart street; St. Andrew street, ."rom Filleul street, to King street; Hanover street, from Filleul street to King street: Cumberland street, from Stua.t street to Lower High street; Dunbar ’tree), from Stuart street to Lower High street; Cargill road, from Cargill's Corner to Forbury Corner; South road, between David street anil Morrison street; King Edward road, between Park terrace end Macandrew road; David street, bet ween Main South road and Forbury Corner. (3) No restriction as to period of time that a vehicle may be left either attended or unattended ■•• hall for the time being be imposed in respect of any of the street* of the city not referred to in clauses 1 and o Nothing contained in those regulations shall be deemed to exempt any vehicle from the operationus of sections 85 and 86 of By-law No. 18 of the City of Dunedin. It shall not be lawful to lea-e any vehicle, unattended iu terms of these regulations within 30ft of any street intersection. The regulations shall not apply to those places appointed by the City Council to be parking places for private cars, or stands or ranks from which licensed vehicles are authorised to ply for hire.
