CANADIAN EXHIBITION.
NEW ZEALAND’S EXHIBIT. AUCKLAND, March 1. More evidence of the splendid advertisement ; given, fe New Zealand by the exhibit made by the Dominion at the Canadian National Exhibition last year has been provided by Mr G. G. Roulston, a business man of Toronto, who arrived by the Tahiti to-day on his second visit, to New Zealand. He said the New Zealand exhibit was one of the best, if not the best display of the nations’ resources made at the great exhibition. American business .men . from alj States had, attended the exhibition, and the New Zealand court made such' an impression upon ’ them that many of them had expressed their intention of visiting this country St the first opportunity. . Mr Roulston was in Toronto when the Prime Minister (Mr Cbafes) visited’’that ;City. Ija several of his speeches Mr Coates
referred to the tariff agreement between Canada and New Zealand,’ and said that unfortunately the balance of trade was strongly in favour of Canada. Mr Roulston was of opinion that this state of affairs was-largely the fault of the people of New Zealand. He said that New Zealand should have a Trade Commissioner in Canada, ‘ and New Zealand business mem should go to Canada fe study tha markets. There was no reason why Canada should not buy more New Zea-, land butter, which, he thought, was tha best in the world Mr .Roulston mentioned that the display of New .Zealand rugs at the exhibition had excited a good deal of admiration. One merchant, who had sold a number had only .three left, and for these he had" so many, requests that the rugs were bal-. lotted; for by the prospective purchasers.
