A Wanganui lady, had-the pleasure of travelling down the Wanganui River with the American passengers on the Franconia, an] had' a very Interesting conversation with the visitors, who were _ particularly interested in listening to tho .historical facts she could relate about the river (says an exchange). She happened to refer to the Old Country as “Hoirie,’’ which most; New Zealanders do. A ’distinguished American asked her where she . was born, and she, .replied, “Wanganui..”; “And your, motherf” “Wanganui,. also,” -replied the lady, > ,“Arid yet .. you-- call .England ‘Homp’ ! t .
