PROTESTANT CHURCHES.

MISSION WORK DISCUSSED. WELLINGTON, February 17. Delegates representing the Protestant churches and missionary societies of New Zealand met to-day. The Bishop of Nelson was elected president, Rev. H. H. Barton (Dunedin), vice-president, the Rev. D. Calder hon. secretary, and Rev. F. B. Redgrave hon. treasurer. These, with Revs. M. W. P. Lascelles, W. M. Holland, J. A. Lochore, and Mi's. Pinfold were appointed an executive council. Power was given to the council to appoint two delegates to the World Missionary Council to meet in Jerusalem in March, 1928, the appointments to be made if practicable. The members of the council suggest to the ministers of their several churches the desirability of securing speakers from sister churches to address their missionary gatherings. A committee was appointed to make recommendations regarding the study of common mission text books in the several ..churches, and the possibility of holding combined missionary conferences. Discussion took place on the Chinese situation, and a resolution was passed urging the Christian people of the Dominion to pray that China’s present internal troubles may be overcome, that the Chinese Christian Church may be strengthened, and that the missionaries may be preserved from danger and enabled soon to resume their work. A resolution was passed thanking the Prime Minister for his efforts to secure a Royal Commission on the issues between the French and British authorities in the government of the New Hebrides. A resolution of appreciation of New Zealand’s administraation of mandated territories was carried, a copy of the resolution to be sent to the secretary of the League of Nations Council as well as the New Zealand Government.
