■ DOMESTIC’S CONVICTIONS. ' CHRISTCHURCH, January 29. On January 28, 1919, eight years ago yesterday, Mary M'Kegney, a domestic, was sentenced to gaol for being a rogue and: a vagabond. This morning, on her 188th conviction, arid her seventh since the beginning of December last, she was sentenced to six months in gaol with hard labour. M'Kegney was charged before Mr H. A. Young, S.M., with being an incorrigible rogue and a vagabond, in that she habitually consorted with people of undesirable character. She was further charged with being found drunk. On the first charge she was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour at the Addington Gaol. She was convicted and discharged on the second charge. ' . “Everything has been done for this woman,” said the Magistrate in giving his decision. “She has had any number of chances, and I think gaol is the best remedy for her.” “Six months hard,” she screamed on hearing the sentence. “Ooh!
