EXHIBITION EXECUTIVE.

THE FINAL MEETING OF WOMEN’S - - SECTION. The final meeting of the Executive Committee of the Women’s Section N.Z. and South Seas Exhibition was held at “Broomhill,” Roslyn, on Monday week last. There were present Mrs Sutherland Ross, (president) in the chair. Lady Ferguson (vice-president). Miss Downie Stewart (vicepresident), Mrs Arthur Barnett, Mrs W. R. Hayward, Mrs -Hewitson, Professor Strong, Miss Runciman and Miss Jackson. Mr A. W. Jeavons, hon.- treasurer, also attended to support the financial statement. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Mrs H. L. Tapley, Mrs J. A. Johnstone, Mrs Marshall Macdonald and Miss Fraser. - ‘ • •' . <■

The President made a brief report of matters which"had occurred during the last few months. There .had been a .good deal of correspondence which required considerable attention. ■ Mention might' be made of a letter, sent -on by Her Excellency, Lady Alice Fergtisson, from Lady Cynthia. Colville, expressing the satisfaction of her Majesty the Queen that tl e Exhibition was a success and that the crochet work done by her Majesty tad been appreciated. Numerous letters from exhibitors in England and other places overseas had ti tn received expressing their appreciation of the way in which the organising secretary, Miss Jean Begg, had managed their exhibits and effected so many sales. Exceedingly nice letters had been received from people expressing their satisfaction for certificate-awards and diplomas; also from various recipients of minutes of thanks. ' '. Letters concerning missing articles, nonarrival of certificates, claims, etc., had all been dealt with. One of the two missing articles from the loan collection had been found, but all efforts to trace the christening veil had been, unfortunately, fruitless, and the lender could only bo monetarily compensated for her loss. Professor G. E. Thompson had been commissioned by the directors to include an account of the women’s. section in the official record of the exhibition. The finances of the section ended up most satisfactorily. The directors’ guarantee had never had to be called upon, though the executive fully realised that the individual help of several directors, and the generous, assistance of; the company had helped greatly towards this successful result. After all expenses were paid the section had in hand a. balance of £llO. It was unanimously decided that this sum should be given to the Soldiers’ Memorial Fund, the committee feeling assured that this would meet with the full approval of all the subscribers to the women s section. The books, papers, etc., appertaining to the section- were left in charge of the president. Mrs J. Sutherland Ross, who then declared the business ■of the womens section' to be finally closed. ' The following minutes of appreciation were tisel at a previous meeting:— “That the members of the. Executive Committee of the women’s section wish to place on record their appreciation of the work done by the chairwomen and committee members connected with the section. Recognising how greatly . the success of the section depended their loyal. co-opera-tion, they herewith tender their sincere thanks.” , „ “That the members of the Executive Committee of the women’s section of the New Zealand and South Seas. Exhibition desire to place on record their appreciation of the great help given to the section by the many subscribers to the financial fund, and also to those voluntary workers who, though not committee members, ren de.red such valuable assistance to the seo tion.’’ . i “That the members of the Executive Committee of the women’s section desire to place on record their appreciation of the generosity and consideration shown to all women’s activities in the Exhibition by the president and directors of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. They would also like to extend this appreciation to the general manager, secretary, and staff for the courtesy and kindly help 'shown by them throughout the period of the pxhi'bition.” Tire President (Mrs Sutherland Ross) had also made her apologies for her long-con-tinued absence through illness from the work of the section during the earlier, parr of last year, and tendered most sincere thanks to the vice-president (Lady Ferguson) for taking her - place as chairwoman, expressed her admiration for- the work done by members of the committee, and referred most appreciatively to the work done by Miss Jean Begg. A vote of thanks was also passed to the. chairwoman, and satisfaction expressed on her restoration to health.
