According to Dr G. du Rietz, a celebrated botanist from the Upsala University, Sweden, the Alpine flora of New Zealand is among the prettiest he has seen. The visitor says that some of the lichens he has found in New Zealand ' were known previously only in the Arctic regions. The doctor regards the Dominion as one of the most interesting and important countries in the world from a botanist’s point of view, and he predicts that large numbers will visit New Zealand short!v. After working at the Canterbury College biological laboratory in his lichens for some days, the doctor will leave for the south to pursue his studies there.
