THEFTS OF CARS.

PRISONERS SENTENCED. HAMILTON, February 2. The two young men, George Hus a Brewer and George Curtis, who recently made a sensational escape from the gaol in Hamilton, where they were remanded on charges of theft v appeared at the Police Court this morning. Brewer pleaded guilty to the theft of an Essex car from Ohaupo and Curtis and Brewer pleaded guilty to the theft of a Ford car from Ilajnilton. On these charges they weie committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence. On the charge of being incorrigible rogues, in that they escaped from prison, Curtis and Brewer pleaded guilty, and were sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the sentence to run concurrently with toe sentences that are<already being served. The Magistrate suggested that when the accused appeared for sentence on the other charges at Wellington a recommendation be made to the judge that they be confined in different prisons. On the charge of converting a car to his own use. Curtis pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment in Wellington gaol. E. A. Paterson, Brewer, and Curtis were remanded to appear at Tc Kuiti to-morrow to answer charges of stealing large quantics of clothing and goods, valued at £7B, belonging to tho Piopio branch of the Farmers’ Trading Company.
