FIXATION OF PRICES.
WELLINGTON, February 2. Correspondence was read to the executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union today from the proprietary Articles Trade Association on the subject of price-fixing and price-cutting. The President (Mr W. J. Polson) said it was much on tho lines of matters relating to price control. Not a roll of wire lefb England, except under, controlled prices, and the same thing applied to many articles of ironware and pottery. The shipping companies and the banks invariably quoted much the same rates. In fact control applied to everything they purchased, and they must do as the other fellow did. He did not see that anything could be dona beyond keeping a sharp eye on these things for the benefit of the producer and tho community at large. He did not think they should make any public protest, but the system of price-fixing for all they bought was creating an artificial condition which was reacting upon them, and accounted for the producer not making the headway . that he should do. No action was taken.
