A BOATING ADVENTURE.
RESCUE BOAT BREAKS DOWN. AUCKLAND, January 30. Four young Devonpor presidents had an unenviable experience while cruising in a 16ft sailing boat on Friday evening. The rudder of their craft broke while they were off Rangitoto Island and they were compelled to obtain the assistance of a large passenger launch to tow them home from the Rangitoto jetty. They had not gone far when the Bollard, to which the tow ropo was attached, pulled out. A sudden squall caught them at the same moment, capsizing their boat and throwing them into the water. _ , They were quickly rescued, but their craft was lost in the darkness. Tile engine of the launch then broke down, and the vessel lay helpless for almost two hours. Finally those on board managed to attract the attention of the Northern Company’s steamer Hauiti returning from Cowes Bay. The Hauiti took the launch in tow and brought it to Auckland, reaching the wharf about two o’clock yesterday morning.
