THE DOBSON MINE.
DELAY IN DEWATERING. WELLINGTON, January 29. Replying to the criticism that the Dobson mine was not being dewatered as rapidly as possible, the Minister of Mines yesterday, iu contradiction of the charge, outlined the steps taken. As, after . discussion with the agents of the British manufacturers, it was discovered that it would take many months to import the necessary plant for dewatering, it was decided to borrow a plant. After a thorough examination of it and tests as to its efficiency, steps were promptly taken to dismantle this plant and transport it to Dobson. It will take several weeks for the concrete foundations to bo put in and for these to be set before the plant can be erected and worked. A careful review of the whole of the steps taken shows that those entrusted with the duty of procuring the required equipment have carried out their duties expeditiously. The Minister is advised that the dewatering of the mine should commence within a month’s time, and operations will be continued until the mine is dewatered and the bodies recovered therefrom. •
