SAMOAN VILLAGES.
REMODELLING' IN PROGRESS. AUCKLAND, July 16. A report from Apia. Samoa, states that, following the instructions of the Administrator, Sir George Richardson, Chief Raumuina started over a year ago to remodel the village of Lepea, and the remodelled village was officially opened by the Administrator in th 9 presence of a large gathering of native officials, and visitors from the Tofua and H.M.S. Labirnum The village presents a fine picture with its new fales formed in a semi-circle, and a huge malae, much bigger than a football area, in the centre. All the cookhouses and sanitary conveniences lie well behind the fales, and the orderly arrangement of the houses is sure to benefit the health of the people of the 'hJ 6 'Excellency complimented Raumuina and his people on being first in the field with the new village. He spoke in hign praise of the fino work that had been done. Some people had said he would not be able to get the Samoans to remodel their villages, but he was glad to find that these people were mistaken. Another fine village at Saleimoa is nearing completion, and promises to be one of the largest and best in all Samoa.
