HONOURS CONFERRED.

INVESTITURE AT GOVERNMENT / HOUSE. WELLINGTON, July 12. At an investiture at Government House to-night his Excellency the . GovernorUreneral conferred the honour of Knighthood on Sir Alexander F. Roberts, late commissioner for New Zealand at the Wembley Exhibition, who was invested with the insignia of Knight Commander of the British Empire Order. Mr A. C. Day, C.M.u., official secretary to the Governor-General was invested with the insignia of the Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, and Mr W. E. C. Reed (Dunedin), C.8.E., late assistant-commis-sioner for New Zealand at Wembley, with the insignia of .Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. The Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decorations were conferred on Lieut.Colonel J. S. Elliott (Wellington), Major F. Greenish, M.C. (Wellington), Major E. White, M.C. (Palmerston North). Major G. H. Hamilton (Levin), and Major E. Vine (Wellington). The investiture was by a reception. The Auckland Presbytery passed the following resolution:—“That the Presbytery, as representing the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, in voicing the grave alarm at the present extent of gambling in the Dominion, expresses disapproval of all forms of gambling,” The first meeting of the Massev Memorial Committee was held at Wellington on July 2, when it was decided to ask Mr Hurst Seager to inspect a site at Point Halswell and to submit a design to the committee. There is £10,250 in hand, and it is anticipated that further subscriptions will be re. ceived from local authorities. Mr, Hurst Seager was considered highly qualified to submit a design for the memorial through his experience in the erection of memorials in various theatres of war.
