LAKE COUNTY.

July 2.—The weather continues mild. There have been a few showers of rain during the week; but there is no frost, and, what is most exceptional at this time of year, farmers are engaged in ploughing in some parts of the district. Householders’ Meetings.—-The householders at Arrowtown and Skippers having failed to elect school committees on the statutory date, second meetings were held on the 23rd nit., when the following committees were elected:—Arrowtown—Messrs D. Macleod (chairman and secretary), W. Dakers, J. Jenkins, W. Stewart, and G. Summers. Skippers—Messrs H. J. H. Lewis (chairman), C. M'Nicol (secretary), E. Sainsbury, A. E. Smith, and J. A. Jacobsen. Football.—The final match of the second round of the cup competition was played on Saturday last, when Arrow and Country Pirates met at Frankton. The game resulted in a win for Arrow by 9 points (two penalty goals and one try) to 3 points (one penalty goal). The three teams are now equal with 4 points. The third round will be opened at Queenstown to-morrow, when Arrow and tueenstown will meet. At Arrowtown on aturday Queenstown schoolboys defeated Arrow schoolboys by 32 to nil. Ladies’ Hockey.—The first match this season for the cup presented by Mrs Paterson for competition between the Queenstown and Arrowtown clubs was played at Queenstpwn on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Arrowtown by 5 goals to nil. Miss Winnie Henderson (4), and E. Mackie shot the goals. Mrs Douglas and Mr W. H. Nelson were the referees. Accidents.—While out shooting rabbits on the hills near Arrowtown one day last week, John Isbister, an employee on the irrigation works, slipped and fell over a cliff. In addition to being severely bruised and shaken, Isbister sustained a severe wound on the face which required the insertion of several stitches. He is progressing favourably.—Ernest Saunders, a member of the Arrow football team, had a rib fractured in the match against Country Pirates on Saturday. Ha was attended to on the ground by Dr Anderson.
