OTAGO CHESS CLUB.
A meeting of the committee of the Otago Chess Club was held on Tuesday, and was attended by Messrs J- S. M. Lawson (president). 8. S. Myers, F. M. Gillies, D. Harris Hastings, L. D. Coombs, L. D. Grigg, B. W. Stenhouse, W. 11. Allen, and G. D. Wright >hon. secretary). The following Match Committee was elected for the ensuing year:—Messrs S. S. Myers, L. D. Grigg, and B. W. Stenhouse. It was decided that in future the committee meet on the second Monday in each month. The sum of £3 3s was given for prizes for the senior champion ship and handicap tournament for last year, the president stating that he would present a medal to the winner of the junior championship. A small committee was set up to make arrangements for the opening of the season. It was resolved that a deputation consisting of Messrs Hastings, Balk, Lawson, and Wright wait upon the editor of the Otago Witness with a view to the possibility of reopening the chess column in that journal. The competitions for the ensuing season were fixed as follows: Senior ohampionship, junior championship, and handicap tournament. A strong recommendation was made to the Match Committee to reinstitute the ladder tournnament, which had been so successful in former years. Mr T. M. Gillies was reappointed as umpire and supervisor of all telegraph matches.
