OBITUARY.

The death is announced from Auckland of Mr Edward Frederick Chandler, foaudef of the advertising firm of Messrs C'handlet (Ltd.). He was born in Chicago 65 year# ago, and was a man of outstanding personality. He spent the whole of his life in the advertising business. A Sydney Sun cablegram from London announces the death of Lord Do Ramsey. He sat in the House of Commons for Huntingdonshire seats from 1860 to 1885, and from 1885 to 1887. Mr Peter Macaulay, whoso funeral took dace last week, was a fine old Scotsman who will not soon be forgotten at Port Chalmers. In his youthful days Air Alacaulay lespended to the call of the sea, and although he tried the gold diggings and other activities of the pioneering days, he never could resent the tang of the salt water, so he settled down at Port Chalmers and did his bit towards adjusting old-world methods of fishing to the conditions maintaining in Otago Harbour. In later years the days of his youth came to life again, so to speak, and he recalled how on one sion when he was a little boy he attended divine service with his mother in a famous church in Edinburgh. lie particularly noticed an old gentleman amongst the worshippers, and his mother told him that was 'the great Lord Macaulay. Air Alacaulay died in his ninetieth year. lie leaves no relatives. A cable message from Sydney announces the death of Air Arthur APCabe, a former prominent footballer and a member of the famous Wallaby team. The death has taken place at Westport of Mrs Catherine Meal's, who is stated to be the fourth white woman to arrive on Donoghue’s goldfield, south of Ross. The deceased, who had reached the age of tK) 'ears, was a native of Comity Clare, Ireland. She leaves three sor.s and one daughter. A master mariner who could tell many tales of the sea in connection with tho pioneering of shipping services to New Zealand while the country was still in its infancy passed away on Alarch 26 at Nobleston, Craigendoran, Scotland, in the person of Captain Alexander William Cameron. The late Captain Cameron, who was very well known on the New Zealand coast, was born at Alelbourne about 65 years ago, and as he early showed a liking for the sea, he served his time on tho sailing ship Auckland, which made a number of trips to New Zealand. He was afterwards officer on other sailing ships, and came to New Zealand as second officer of the Union Company’s steamer Mararoa on her maiden voyage from Horne. Ho quickly passed his master’s examination, and was given command of the steamer Rotorua, of the Union Company’s fleet, in whioh ho made his name by consistently beating the opposition boats on the coast and Sydney runs. He then commanded the Monowai on her maiden voyage to New Zoaland, and shortly afterwards qualified for his extra master’s ticket when ho became a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve. He later resigned from tho Union Company’s service and joined Messrs Muclay (now Lord Maclay) and MTntvre’s service as a master sailing out of Glasgow. At the outbreak of hostilities in tho Great War Captain Cameron was the owner of two river steamers on the Clyde, which were taken over by the Admiralty. Ho was a son of the late Captain A.
