ATHLETICS. OLYMPIC WINNER INJURED. LONDON, May 6. Abrahams, winner of several events at the Olympic Games, sustained a serious accident In the long jump at tjie London Athletic Club’s meeting. After a jump of 22ft he missed the take-off and overturned in the air. He fell on his side and was removed in great pain. He apparently injured the biceps of his right thigh.THE OLYMPIAD DECLINED BY HOLLAND. TMil HAGUE, May 6. Holland has declined the Olympiad Parliament by 48 votes to 36, refusing a subsidy. BOXING. DEMPSEY AND KEARNS PART. LOS ANGELES, April 17. Before leaving on a belated honeymoon, Jack Dempsej announced the end of his business partnership with his manager, Jack Kearns. They jointly own £200,000 worth of Los Angeles real estate, which will be sold during the next few months m order to divide the proceeds. Dempsey declared that he is unwilling to fight again under a contract which gives Kearns an equal share with himself. FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE DISPUTED. WELLINGTON, May 5 Regarding the recent Robinson-Brown fight at Wairoa for the featherweight title, the Wairoa Association reported that Brown, who won the fight, has failed to make the weight limit, 9st. The council has, therefore, decided that Robinson must be declared the holder of the title. AUSTRALIAN AMATEUR TEAM. WELLINGTON, May 6. The Boxing Council, in view of Otago’s refusal to guarantee £350 to stage, contests against the Australian amateur boxing team, has decided to ask Christchurch, Wellington, and the northern aseociationa if they would care to take up the contests. DWYER AND PARKER DRAW. NAPIER, May 6. In a fifteen-round professional contest tonight Hughie Dwyer (10 stone) drew with Eddie Parker (11.9), after a hard fight, for a purse of £2OO. Dwyer sacrificed weight and boxed his opponent, relying on science to win the honours. Parker was surprisingly fast for a man of his weight, and the bouts were evenly contested. The referee’s verdict was popularly received. A DISAPPOINTING EXHIBITION. PARIS, May 6. In a fiftoen-rouni boxing bout Ronald Todd drew with Francois Charles, the French middle-weight champion. Thousands of spectators paid high prices for admission, and were disappointed at the exhibition. SYDNEY, May 9. At the Stadium Pelkoy beat Eugene Volaire on points in 20 rounds, in which the winner proved himself to be a greatly improving boxer. DEMPSEY NOT RETIRING. NEW YORK, May 6. The 25 ponies cf the New Zealand polo team to compete at the Australian Cup meeting, commencing here on the 16th inst., were landed in good condition. ROWING. THE VISIT TO AUSTRALIA. WELLINGTON, May 6. At a meeting of the Now Zealand Rowing Council to-night the report of Mr Louchlin (the marager of the Victorioue All Black Eight) was befere the meeting, and the council agreed with the suggestion that in future eignt-oar races bo substituted for the Provincial Fours. It was decided to place the matter before tin next meeting of delegates. Mr Louchlin was thanked for his able management of the team. Mr S. A. Maxwell (secretary of the New South Wales Association) was appointed the council’s representative in Australia. The matter of raising funds for the visit of the Australian crew later was discussed, and it was decided to place before the association a proposal to make a small levy on all active oarsmen. The secretary submitted the balance sheet for the Australian trip. The expenses totalled £522 7s 6d, which were met by collections by the various associations, a grant from the council funds, and a Government contribution of £l5O Appreciation of the Government's generosity waa expressed by all present HAMILTON, May 9. SYDNEY;, May 7. The Australian Hockey Association has accepted the invitation of the New Zealand Association to send a team, which leaves on July 10. LAWN TENNIS. JACOB AND FYZEE’S SUSPENSION LONDON, May 6. The Lawn Tennis Association announces that Jacob and Jyzee, having given the undertaking required, both suspensions terminated to-day.
