ALBANY STREET SCHOOL.

JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. A well-attended meeting of ex-pupils and ex-teachers of the Albany Street School was held in the echoolhouse on Wednesady, Mr Alex. Dempster presiding. The Social Committee’s report as to the arrangements made for catering in connection with the social reunion and the dinner was adopted. The Secretary reported that letters had been received from ex-pupils now resident in different parts of the dominion. Thy sent their good wishes to their old school, and many forwarded donations towards the Jubilee Fund. The following committee was appointed to carry out the musical programme at the reunion on Friday, August 15:—Messrs Dempster, Rennie, Sinclair, Burke, and Miss Sullivan. It was also decided to appoint Messrs Dempster, Wilkinson, Rennie, Rawlinson, and Johnson to arrange the programme for the dinner on Saturday evening, August 16. Mr J. H. Wilkinson reported regarding the jubilee souvenir. A suggestion had been made that in order to include reports of the jubilee celebrations the publication of the souvenir be delayed. The Souvenir Committee, however, were strongly of the opinion ’that the booklet should be issued during the forthcoming celebrations. Mr Wilkinson believed that it would be a worthy record and a suitable memento of the occasion. Gratification was expressed at the formation of an old boys’ club in Christchurch. Before closing, the Chairman intimated that all the arrangements were well forward, and he was of the opinion that everything pointed to a successful function being held. ENTHUSIASM IN CHRISTCHURCH. (Fbom Our Own* Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 31 A further meeting of the newly-formed Albany Street;) School Ex-pupils’ Association was held to-night, Mr A. O. Wilkinson presiding over a good attendance. Rules and regulations were adopted, and the subscription was fixed at 2s per member. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr J. E. Strachan; president, Mr A. 0. Wilkinson, vice-presidents—-Mesrs G. J. Robb and J. D. Christie; committee—Misses V. and K. Duncan, Mrs C- Browne, Messrs E. F. Scott, H. A. Gilbert, T. M’Millan, and H. F. Waitt. The Chairman reported that he had recently visited Dunedin, where he found great enthusiasm was being shown in the jubilee of the school. A large number of congratulatory messages had been received from ex-pupils, teachers, and committeemen resident in various parts of the dominion and abroad. Among those who had been associated with the school were Sir James Allen, the Hon. J. G. Anderson, Mr J. R, Bartholomew, S.M., and pthers who had received their early training at Albany Street He suggested that the association should forward a donation to be devoted for any purpose in connection with the jubilee celebrations that the School Committee should decide on. The secretary was instructed to write to Dunedin stating that a donation would be forwarded tocvards the jubilee fund at an early date.
