CASUALTIES.

Harry England, farmer, of Malania (a, was killed on the night of the 14th. The dray he was driving overturned iri the darkness and buried him under a load of hay. His wife, searching, found the overturned vehicle, and fell unconscious through shock. The husband’s body was not found until Sunday morning. Heather Andrews, a girl aged 30 months, was killed through being run over by a tramear. The father of the deceased, Mr A. Ei. Andrews, resides in Remuera road. The child ran out of the gate after her cousin, who was crossing the road. The niotorman was unable to see her ownin' to a passing motor car. A shocking tragedy occurred at SpringCreek on the right of the 14th, when a wellknown farmer, George Henry Johnstone, residing near Whittle’s Bend, was found shot on the verandah of the house of his sister-in-law, Mrs Ada Redwood. Airs Johnstone had been visiting her sister, and Johnstone went to the house about 6.30 o’clock. He asked his wife to return home, but she did not do so. She however, left Mrs Redwood’s house shortly after. Johnstone appears to have returned home, and at about 9.30 the inmates of Mrs Redwood’s house heard a noise on the verandah, and discovered (hat Johnstone had shot himself through the chest, there being a huge wound under the heart. His condition was hopeless. He was admitted to the Wsirau Hospital, where he died four or live hours later. A man named John Campbell, single, aged 39 years, residing at 82 Moreau street, St. Kiida, was admitted to the Hospital on the 16th suffering from injuries to the head, the result of a collision with a motor car in Princes street, opposite the Oval.

Ellen Ferguson, aged 20 years, an employee of the Bedding and Mattress Manufacturing Company at Grey Lynn, was endeavouring to replace a bolt on drivingmachinery, when she got her hair caught in the shaft, and had it torn from the scalp, leaving a deep wound. She was removed to the hospital, where she is progressing favourably Charles William Davidson, a married man, aged 46 years, in stepping from a Miramar tram, fell. He died from laceration of the brain and cerebral hasrnmorrliage. About 4 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon an accident occurred on the Woodviile side of the Ballanee bridge. A cur driven by an agent of a milking machine company* carried away a considerable portion of the fence and crashed -50 ft, a straight drop into the river. The man was badly hurt and sent to hospital. The cause of the accident is a mystery. Probably it occurred through collision with another ear. Andrew Baker, aged 47 and single, a coal miner, was killed on the 19ih inst. at the Morgan seam, Liverpool Colliery, by a fall of coal. The body of Elizabeth Clarke, widow, aged 63. was found in the river near Kaiapoi cn the ISt.h inst She had left a note stating her intention to take her life.
