Some gold-hearing stone has been found on tho Alfred River, Maruia, at what is known as Bromley’s Flat (reports tho Westport Times). The stone has been assayed and goes 19dwt to the ton. So far three leases have been pegged out and applied for, and another two were to bo taken out this week. A remarkable feat was performed by- a 10 months’ old Airedale recently. The dog was born in Lyttelton, arid had never o een out of the port. Recently his master became an inmate of the Cashmere Sanatorium. He had been there a few weeks when ho was surprised to sec his dog appear at his bedside one evening (states the Lyttelton ’limes). No relatives had visited him since the dog was seen at liis home in Lyttelton the previous day and tho manner in which the animal found his way across tho hills and located his master in a strange locality is still puzzling all concerned. Three sums of “conscience money” have been received by the Treasury, and acknowledged in the latest Gazette. They comprise 10s forwarded to the Collector of Customs fit Auckland; £l, forwarded to the Railway Department at Timarti; and 2s 6d. forwarded to the Public Works Department at Auckland.
